In today's era of rapid development, the workplace environment is becoming increasingly diversified. However, age discrimination remains a hidden force that sometimes hinders the healthy growth of enterprises and the comprehensive flow of talent. In order to build a more diverse, inclusive and healthy workplace environment, Ingersoll Rand actively explores and takes a series of actions to eliminate age discrimination in the workplace and provide fair development opportunities for employees of different ages.
One of the values of Ingersoll Rand is: We nurture and celebrate a culture that embraces diverse points of views, backgrounds and experiences. We are committed to equity in how people are treated and the opportunities available to them. And we know that a workplace which cultivates a sense of inclusion, belonging and respect will develop the most talented and capable employees. Through internal promotion, training and the demonstration role of senior leaders, this value will be deeply rooted in people's hearts and become a conscious action for every employee.
Ingersoll Rand adheres to the principles of fairness, justice and openness in all aspects of recruitment, promotion, training, compensation and benefits, and does not set unreasonable thresholds or bias based on age.
In our recruitment process, we adopt a diversified strategy that not only focuses on candidates' professional skills but also values their potential, adaptability, and teamwork spirit. We optimize job descriptions to avoid using language that may trigger age bias, such as "young and promising" or "experienced but not exceeding XX years old." Additionally, we broaden our talent pool by leveraging various channels like social media, campus recruitment, industry conferences, and more, to attract outstanding individuals from diverse age groups. Currently, 46% of our employees are over 40 years old, and we have recruited over a hundred outstanding talents from the new generation in recent years.
We organize diversified training programs encompass not only professional skills but also cross-generational competency enhancement courses such as leadership, innovative thinking, and digital skills. These programs are designed to cater to employees of all ages, fostering a comprehensive growth path for everyone.
Ingersoll Rand actively establishes platforms to facilitate knowledge sharing and experience transfer between employees across generations.
We have launched the "Mentor Program" where experienced employees guide and mentor new hires, while simultaneously encouraging the newcomers to share new technologies and ideas. This fosters a bidirectional learning environment where younger employees gain invaluable experience and skills from their mentors, and experienced employees feel valued and recognized for their contributions, thereby strengthening team cohesion. One of the participants of "Mentor Program" mentioned, "My mentor shared many professional insights with me, which broadened my way of thinking and helped me solve a problem that had been troubling me for a long time."
Furthermore, we regularly organize intergenerational exchange activities, such as themed sharing sessions and team building activities, to enhance emotional connections among employees from different age groups.
We strive to create a friendly work environment by providing comfortable office conditions and healthy living facilities, such as gyms and lounges. Additionally, we actively foster a culture of employee care by establishing an "EAP Mental Health Program", organizing specific lectures quarterly, and attend to the physical, mental, and family well-being of our staff, offering necessary support and assistance when needed.
In conclusion, eliminating age discrimination in the workplace requires joint efforts across multiple levels, including culture, vision, policies, and measures.
Through continuous exploration and practice, we can create a more inclusive, healthy, and dynamic workplace environment where every employee can shine in a position that suits them, contributing to the sustainable development of both the organization and society as a whole.
