Intel-best practices

At Intel, we’re driven by our purpose to create world-changing technology that improves the life of every person on the planet. Our shared values - and our commitment to living them - are what connect us to each other, our customers, and the world.

Intel practices the cultural values of customer first, fearless innovation, results-driven, inclusion, quality, integrity and one Intel. Our values guide how we make decisions, treat each other, and serve our customers.

Diversity, equity and inclusion are core to Intel’s values and instrumental to driving innovation and delivering strong business growth. It is Intel corporate social responsibility priority to be a catalyst to accelerate business outcomes and innovate talent strategies to drive workforce representation and inclusion and positive social impact globally.

For more than a decade Intel has taken actions to integrate diversity and inclusion expectations into the culture, performance management systems, leadership expectations and annual bonus metrics.

At Intel, making sure our hiring practices and procedures are open and available to a variety of people  is a top priority. We are making this happen by applying inclusive hiring best practices throughout our hiring journey in a consistent and methodical manner. Hiring managers are required to complete the inclusive hiring training upon any hiring needs are raised. Intel also provides an inclusive language inventory for managers to utilize to foster conversation throughout the hiring journey that acknowledges diversity and conveys respect to all people. At the interview stage, Intel also provides training to hiring managers on how to remove unconscious bias and utilize behavior-based interview methodology to help reinforce and integrate inclusive hiring practices into the final hiring decision. By applying for these training courses and sharing the best known practice among hiring managers significantly improved diversity hiring from attracting more diverse candidates to a fair and non-biased vetting process. As a result, Intel in China has been consistently hiring 30%+ technical females and making steady progress toward Intel global audacious goal that by 2030 Intel will achieve 40% technical female workforce representation.

At Intel, we strive for an inclusive and fully engaged workforce that is reflective of the best and brightest talent in the industry, despite ages. The Intel Code of Conduct and Intel Global Human Rights Principles set out our commitment to nondiscrimination and to provide a workplace free of harassment.  Other aspects of creating an inclusive culture include offering company-wide portal Inclusion@Intel to provide resource to employees to practice day to day, designing inclusive leadership program to equip managers and employees to play leadership roles in growing the culture and building diverse and inclusive high-performing teams, recruiting executive inclusion advocates who are exemplars of inclusion and actively working to use their influence to build a more inclusive culture.

Another engine that drives community and inclusion at Intel is our Employee Resource Groups (ERG). In China the most popular 2 ERG are Women at Intel and NextGen Professional Network, these 2 ERGs are organized around gender identity and the new/young generation of employees. The ERGs serve as powerful networks, offering opportunities for personal and professional development, access to mentors and volunteer activities that facilitate teamwork and build camaraderie in different age and diversity groups. Getting involved with the ERG benefits employees- developing a network, learning about other business groups, growing skills and leadership experience that are not available in their primary role.

With significant number of new hires into Intel China every year, it’s critical to business that their integration is fast and smooth and the new generation talents can unleash their full potential to lead the technology innovation. Understanding the drivers and challenges, NextGen China chapter was established in 2020, with the vision to make Intel China to be the great place to work for all early career professionals. This ERG covers all Intel sites across China and is advocated by one of the most senior executive leaders from China.  All new hires can enroll into NextGen once they join Intel and within the community we provide series of lectures to speed up and deepen new hires’ understanding of Intel business, improve their soft skills such as presentation, stakeholder management, collaboration etc. At a more individual level, new hires can also benefit from receiving one-on-one personalized coaching which is designed to support typical transition into a new position or an organization. Beyond integration, there are multiple activities available as well. Examples like inter-generation understanding workshop given Intel’s diversified workforce, giving back to community with the collaboration with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), work-life balance workshops to help employee manage stress and stay healthy. Very positive feedback was received from not only the members from the community but also their managers that the ERG has been improving the integration efficiency and strengthening new generation talents’ culture fit into Intel and the emotional loyalty.
