Technological breakthroughs, policy shifts, and sectoral advancements continuously influence organizations in today’s dynamic business climate. This evolving landscape presents C-suite leaders with the formidable task of anticipating change and crafting visionary strategies to propel growth.
On Oct 26th, Page Executive hosted an exclusive webinar featuring Anthony Thompson, CEO of Page Executive, along with our esteemed panel of executive recruitment specialists. This session was dedicated to unveiling the most current industry trends and providing critical insights across various sectors.
Our objective is to furnish contemporary leaders with transformative outlooks that foster innovative and strategic thinking, guiding their organizations and personal career paths toward new frontiers. Below, we present key takeaways from Samantha Li, Partner at Page Executive.
Samantha shared the trends in China’s consumer market. Compared with the same period last year, the retail industry had a rapid recovery in the first half of 2023.
The retail industry in services rebounded fastest, the consumer goods industry recovered relatively slowly, while the retail categories related to real estate were relatively weak. But generally, the consumption recovery is lower than expected, and uncertainty is the new normal.
Samantha shared six strategies for executives to lead through uncertainty, including embracing the discomfort of not knowing, resisting oversimplifications and quick conclusions, having a holistic view and never being a perfectionist.
She recommended that as business conditions, consumer behaviours, market competition, and other factors rapidly change, past successes may not necessarily lead to future success. Managers should shift from being ‘omniscient ’ to being ‘omnivorous ’ learners, such as learning about Gen-Z consumer behaviour, new sales channel changes, new social media matrices, etc.
Executives facing structurally complex problems should be able to break them down into smaller parts, consult experts, and find solutions. When encountering complex issues (where various links are interconnected), executives can discover answers through trial and error.
Lastly, Samantha shared vivid and detailed examples to illustrate the different focuses of talent needs for companies at different stages and sizes, as well as everyday recruitment needs and characteristics in the business field.
